I don't mind night drives. Soon the CH EZ was loaded on the PC and I was ready for an all niter.
I had played the first two planets quite quickly and now on the hardest level on the last map.
My strategy was the same, for the first two maps - no upgrades except ammo when they came available.
With the two styles of oke's ( 180 process point and several under 200 pp ) and a low budget I quickly took the enemy's bases. Soon after the second map I had a budget bigger than Dethlocks concert tour budget. From here on through to the end I maxed out a few factory's so I could produce then form a 180 squad every turn and overwhelm the enemy with more than 2 or 3 180oke's to their 1 . Towards the last couple of maps the enemy has stronger oke's and as such I would have to use two 180 squads to destroy the enemy squad.
Finally the last map, When I first saw the layout I thought....damn this looks hard.
I had to max out all factory's and crank out as many 180 okes every turn. By the 4th turn I had 13 or 14 squads on the map attacking bases. After the first battle against a enemy tank and 2 legged shotgun team vs my cards 26, 27 and 28, I started to design a couple of stronger oke's under 200 pp that where strong in tank killing.

To my surprise I did not need them as I had so many 180okes squads already on the map that the enemy was loosing by shear numbers.
As soon as there was only 1 base left to capture, the BOSS squads ambushes my weakest base and captures it . The heavily armored Boss okes charge into battle aggressively in a tight pack shooting a metal storm of assault ammo. Once my prowler was hit and knocked down the Boss okes finished it in seconds. It took 3 or 4 of my 180 squads to defeat a BOSS squad. Eventually the boss squads ran out of fuel and ammo around the their 3rd consecutive battle and the 180s slowly whittled away at the BOSS armour until they were destroyed..

After completing the game I ran all oke's I created thought the ranking tests and against each other.
The results are interesting and useful for determining what oke design is best for playing the maps.
The boRg was designed to beat other prowler 180s in competition and did not score as good as the general purpose design I created while playing the last map. I'll try the FIREant oke program when I replay the hard maps again.
Here is a slide show of screen shots. Includes the hard map after beating the game, and all the OKE's ranked. I put comments on the photos but to be visible you may have to open the album.

View all
Get your own

Carnage in Japan

I was surfing the net recently and discovered a Carnage Heart fan site in Japan.
After running the url through a website translator, I just started to explore another world of Carnage Heart.
From what I could tell, CH and EZ has been popular in Japan since its release. Just a few items from this blog copied ( actually its the other way around )
Its intent is to inform those exploring the internet on the status of CH , a portal directing those interested to this active community. On the website I have my "CHR OKE battle blog" as a link to the action but when I have time I will add the links listed here as well as to the followers/community that may have an active CH site / blog / videos / downloads ....also.
I favoured ( <- Canadian spelling ) this blog as a means to see who was still interested in the game and would
of eventually developed the website if more than a couple of folks showed interest. Thankfully OKE DOKE found this blog and created something better than what I could do.

One more site to mention - my game saves ( asst'd OKE's for you to destroy ) One of the many ways to post your oke's for upcoming tournaments. .OK - I showed you mine - show me ( us ) yours.

Gekko - 8

Over the weekend I was playing with some oke designs for the latest challenge mentioned on previous post. Towards the end of the test and tune of the 3rd design , my PC frooze. NOOOOO.
I havn't had a freeze up in a couple of years. I suspect I had too many programs and a download running all at once.
I tried in vain to get the old box revived but had to push reset. Bye Bye oke's.
By that point my brain was mush, and eyes red. I knew that I was going to start over.

I had a few minutes left before calling it a night so I reboot and proceeded to recreate the "Gekko - 8" program using the Prowler with the shotgun, rockets . This is not my design. Very little know about the program except it was used in a competition described HERE.
No hardware specifications were described for use on this program so I also recreated a second "Gekko - 8" Prowler OKE identical to the first except the oke uses 8 missiles.
Eventually I will submit the game save to the Over Kill Engineers site for competition .

Warning - Despite the clever use of only 16 blocks on the cpu - this Prowler is dangerous.

From Carnage Heart - OKE Programs

I use the Gekko to benchmark my designs.

Download bin HERE

edit:
Try creating other 2 leg okes other than the Prowler body and copy this design. I've arranged to switch internet providers on Feb 11 but on friday they pulled the plug . Long story short - I have access to the web today.

It looks like things have evolved in the last month to the point where we know how to share game saves, organize battles , post videos, and such. OKE Doke's website may be still a work in progress but in my view its scores top marks.

So now that we have tried a no upgrade category that was more of a test I thought we should move on to the next level.

So here is what I propose:

Still use the Prowler or Prowler II but include all weapons and upgrades in the inventory ( as it was meant to be ) .

Players post a game save with 3 Prowler OKE ' s on the card . Each OKE must have a different primary weapon. ( design one with laser, one with assault gun , and last one with shotgun )

This will give us 9 oke's total ( more if the blog followers decide to participate ) and maybe we can figure out how to create a tournament of 1 on 1 and/or 3 on 3 battles, including an open mixed class ( specify which combo of oke's to use ) team battles.

There are many variations we can come up with for battles with the 3 oke's we create. Laser only, shotgun only etc.

Maybe I'm straying from the K.I.S.S. rule.

We can play around with this criteria for a month or so before introducing another OKE design.

I would like to get input, and suggestions on this idea, as well as all agree on the match time limit ( 50 to 600 seconds ) on the competition .

I thought of just doing a low class competition but this would decrease the challenge and longevity of the game.

Your thoughts ?

edit : Would it be better to continue with a 180 process point class for a little while longer?

VS Battle anyone?

From Carnage Heart Revival

How are things coming along Watson? My guess Oke Doke has something(s) on the work table.

For the first VS Battle I propose a Level 1 OKE tournament . This would be a trial run before we move on to entering the higher level bad boys. Initially I was going to suggest a no upgrade class with the Prowler- using only the default weapons that are available at the start of the game OR
Any OKE with any weapon as long as its a Level 1.

Which one do you prefer guys ?

Oke Doke - is that a memory card save on that link you posted? I have not had a chance to play in the last 6 weeks , the summer weather is here and lots of stuff to do around the house as well as getting away to my folks place in Parry Sound on weekends. I still think about the game and look forward to an hour of free time. Winter is just 5 month away and no doubt will have lots of Carnage playtime.

What I wanted to talk about was the 180 OKE as mentioned in the title.
I have played though the hard level many times now with no upgrades and know what type of program is required to beat the game. The 180 is a real bare bones, and cheap oke to produce.
Whats cool about 180 is that in the factory you can upgrade the production line to the max process which is 180. When I start a level I make sure I have 3 lines and max them out .

From Carnage Heart Revival

This way each turn 3 okes are made and 3 can be deployed. On some of the hard maps there is a bottle neck where only one squad can pass at a time so as long as one squad is sent out each turn the okes can march through with out stepping over each other. Lots of time testing is required to tune as they are handicapped in every way . I place a high priority on defense, dodging bullets etc. Believe it or not, I can complete a level in 14-16 turns.

Just a thought.. would this be a cool way to battle each others OKE's in a tournament? The "180" class?

Anyway , that's all for now, check back as I may edit in some other stuff.

S.

New Challange , No Challange

Well Its been a month or so since last post. Thought I'd at least add something to keep the blog fresh.

I have been playing CH on and off - the hard level now at least half a dozen times now. The challange I have set for myself was to complete the level with no upgrades. I have finished the hard level several times now finishing each map in 12 to 15 turns.

My next challange to myself is to see how much money is left after completing the 8th map.

I'll post screenshots of the last move on the 8th map for anyone who may be playing and to try and better it.

When I get tired of that I may try and complete the hard map without firing a shot. It will be grapple only battles. Ya right.....lol.

I havn't copied any oke programs that are in the photo slide show at this point. Only because its a bit of a pita. Time is a factor and risk of error inputing/chasing errors. I'm looking fwd to submisions via memory save files instead as it is easier and quicker. However I may break down and do it manually one weekend.

Future Plans

I have been in touch with another CH fan. We briefly discussed ways to set up battles.
Once we get a few oke's running and tuned up we can swap them to try out. Eventually I hope to set up some kind of tournament. I would like to see the first tournament be consisting of level 1 oke's since many of us are starting from scratch. As mentioned in previous post , I myself have just level 1 and 2 prowlers that with just a couple of adjustments on the program to be tournament ready . They are currently tuned to last a couple of rounds in the game - they hold onto secondary weapons most of the time.

I have also installed FRAPS in hopes of recording some of the battles. I hope to run a test video and post it . I welcome viewers to critique which will help me improve on my ideas. I have also set up a separate website just for the tournament videos. Any alternate vid host suggestions welcome.

I'm excited to see a few folks now getting involved. I am checking out your blogs too.

This should be fun . I can only imagine how much fun and popular this game could of , would of , should of been have we had some of Internet related technology now. Who knows , maybe Sony and Artdink may see this and release a new game. Then I will buy a PS3 - just as the original Carnage Heart rental way back in the '90's prompted me and another buddy to buy a PSX.

My first oke files

Finally , My first oke offering for you to try out. The challange to myself was to beat the hard maps with only level 1 okes. Also, I'm looking fwd to hearing from the others that up until a couple of years ago were active .

Well, I finally started playing the game. Using the emulator on the PC is great. I also have my same playstat!on setup running from 10 years ago. I can now see the contents of my old oke programs . Hopefully , I will copy the strong ones over to the PC. Its more for reference now.

I started playing with a clean slate. Clicked on Callisto ( hard - lol ) and started building an oke. That was easy as there is not many weapon options, now for the program........ well .....15 minutes later I inserted a blank command then another blank... my, I'm on a roll...Then It hit me. This is a brand new game to me. In a way I was happy as I know that the challenge is there which is what I like, but a little worried that my mental health might be compromised from age. Are the college days catching up to me? They say we only use 2% of our brain, so I wasn't too worried when inhaled the fumes back then..... Well once I started inserting real commands it did not take long before I had a working oke. The best part of the game is the tweaking and the occasional re-write. I had not actually played the game for several days as I was not happy with the program. Eventually I started though the maps. By Map 4 I realized I could capture all bases on the map just using level 1 and a few level 2 oke's . Winning in under 17 turns - not fun. So to make it more challenging I surrounded the enemies last big base and let the game evolve. After 160 or so turns, all parts were available and purchased/optimized . I should of done this on the first couple of maps so the remaining 6 maps would be tougher as the enemy will have the same oke's the heavy weapons and armour. I'll keep this in mind next time I replay the Calli map.

Back in the game

So I have had a chance to blow the dust off the C H disks and PS2. I outfitted the Gekko-8 with the Vypor, shot gun, rockets, Goltex ( all heavy duty parts and max armour ). This is the most impressive program I have seen. Very simple, efficient and aggresive , a fine example of following the K.I.S.S. rule in design. It beat all Artdink oke's and all but a couple of mine - barely.

Kudos to the designer Sato ( BIP House )

Hopefully my missing game saves on the 3rd memory card will turn up as it was the latest generation of progams I designed way back in the '90s. If not I will have to design a new tournament version from memory .

Time is hard to find for play this game and as anyone who played this game, lots of testing and tuning is involved. Eventually, I plan to copy the oke programs that Thufer Hawat posted, then Watsons oke programs as well as posting a couple of mine for anyone looking for something different to battle.

Carnage Heart Revival

<img style="float:left;
